The Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE) has been supporting orphan care in Haiti for almost two years. The earthquake which hit Haiti two years ago tomorrow (January 12) caused significant loss of life, injury and instantly added many boys and girls to the already large number of orphaned and abandoned children in that impoverished country.
From the beginning, our goals have included fully supporting a “village” in partnership with a Haitian evangelical church. We also help other villages in Haiti, but our first HOPE village has been a year and a half in the making.
We have partnered with The Philadelphia Evangelical Church in the city of Gonaives to help them care for up to 100 orphans. Care includes housing, food, clothing, education and clean drinking water. The schools we build serve the orphans and children from the surrounding community. In addition, we help the local people establish micro-business enterprises such as sewing centers, agricultural projects, bakeries and clean water centers. These not only provide sustainable resources for the orphans, but jobs for Haitians and a means of income to support the “villages.”
For a few months we have referred to the village as Philadelphia Village. We may still do that from time to time. But the church gave the village an official name recently, Village de Vie, which translated means “Village of Life.”
Well “life” in Village de Vie is about to begin. Our team of 26 leaves tomorrow (January 12, 2012) to visit several orphanages, casting a vision for these caring souls as they/we embrace the Haitian people and culture for four days and love on these precious children.
While there, on Saturday January 14, we will take part in the dedication of Village de Vie! It is really hard to describe how elated we are to not only see the village up and running, but also to be there for the opening and dedication.
Please pray for is as we go and especially as we gather with the people of Philadelphia Church and and the community to thank God for what He is doing in Haiti and dedicate Village de Vie to Him and His glory!
Glwa pou Bondye!
